All serious photographers need to keep their cameras at peak efficiency to deliver peak performance, and a fleck of dust on the sensor can ruin a great shot. Now, LensPen makes it easy and practical to solve that problem with their new SensorKlearLOUPE® Kit.

Used on the International Space Station, this kit has proved its effectiveness and reliability under the most demanding conditions.

Positioned on the camera body, as you would a lens, it provides perfectly directed light to pinpoint the problem. Once dust is detected, the included blower is used to remove the dry dust. But for tackling the dreaded problem of sticky dust, that is when the SensorKlear Loupe Kit really makes a difference. Using the access window at the side of the Loupe, insert the angled tip of the new SensorKlear II pen to safely and easily target and remove the sticky dust. Only the LensPen SensorKlear Loupe has the access window to allow the user to see and clean at the same time – a quantum leap forward in the world of DSLR sensor cleaning.

Exalead, a global provider of software for information access and search-based applications for the enterprise and the Web, today announced that the French Government has chosen its technology to power search and content retrieval in the new version of its public website.
In a market first, the French Presidency has entrusted Exalead to implement search within videos using Exalead’s Voxalead technology. This technology automatically transcribes video and audio into text (‘speech-to-text’ transcription), and enables search and navigation within these resources (see voxaleadnews.labs.exalead.com).
Specifically, on Elysee.fr, Voxalead technology allows the user to search video content as they do text content - by entering a word in a text box - and the Exalead engine returns all the videos available on the website in which that word is used, with one-click access to the precise moment in each video when the word is used.

ReadSoft, a leading global provider of software solutions for Document Automation, is helping the UK’s insurance industry improve efficiencies and streamline working processes. By using ReadSoft’s CLASSIFY AND INDEX solution insurance companies can accelerate the claims process, overall reducing the time from first notice of loss to settlement by 35%.
Traditionally, insurance companies have manually captured and filed all documentation relating to each claim, keying in by hand information from claims forms, supporting evidence and compound documents. This is a time consuming and labour-intensive process, often resulting in duplication as well as increasing the likelihood of human error.

Reports that a Web site selling Durex condoms in India has suffered a data breach - with customers details being publicly available on the Internet - appears to be the result of business logic flaws, says Imperva.
“Web application hackers are focusing more and more on attacks that target vulnerabilities in the business logic, rather than in the application code,” explained Imperva CTO Amichai Shulman. “Business logic attacks often remain undetected. In fact, most business logic vulnerabilities are hard to anticipate and detect using automated test tools, such as static code analyzers and vulnerability scanners. Often, attack traffic resembles normal application traffic. Attacks are usually not apparent from code and are too diverse to be expressed through generic vulnerability scanner tests.”

Armorlog International Limited today announced it has commenced seeking distributors for initial discussions for distribution of new authentication technology developed by its owners known as Variable Proprietary Character Set Multi-layered LoginTM also known by the acronym VPCSMLTM Australian Provisional Patent Application Number 2009905040.
This is a software server side solution to network fraud that acts independently of the limitations of user side based solutions. This is particularly important as a large proportion of fraud is in-house with the perpetrator being known or close to the victim so a system needs to account for the fact that a users’ computer may be easily compromised by someone in a trusted position close to the victim. The system has features incorporated in the design to protect network user access and defend networks against denial of service attacks. It is designed to prevent the user inadvertently revealing their logon credentials and will deter wilful sharing of credentials which will assist publishers to protect copyright losses from illegal sharing of login credentials. The system can be used to prevent access to user logon credentials by phishing attacks, malware, keyboard logging, telephone scams, identity theft, device skimmers, shoulder browsers, password guessing programs and man in the middle attacks.

Half of organisations stated that IT applications that cause the most pain for the least gain are 'kill category' applications such as old systems where the code is no longer maintained/supported according to a poll by 360°IT - The IT Infrastructure Event, due to take place at London's Earls Court this coming September. A third of organisations said that 'contain category’ applications, the old stuff that's expensive to run and difficult to change/manage were causing them the most pain for the least gain, compared to only 4% that said that ‘invest category’ applications that have a direct impact on business value were in this category. The remaining 12% said that 'Operate category' applications that don’t improve business performance were causing them the most pain.
According to Steve O'Donnell managing director and senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), “these ‘kill’ applications are always a nightmare, they only represent a tiny handful of the estate (perhaps 1-5%) but are impossibly difficult to change. Often the guys who wrote and maintained the code are retired (or dead). There is only one thing to do with a 'kill' application - bin it. You know it'll cause pain and disruption, as well as costing a lot of money, but it has to be done.”

Three months after the announcement that the Information Commissioner’s Office is to be granted new powers from April 6th, 65% of people are still ignorant to the fact that they could cost their organisation £500K if their actions cause a “deliberate or negligent” breach of personal data. The study, sponsored by Cyber-Ark Software amongst 500 city workers, found that the majority of employees haven’t been informed about the latest fines and rules of the data protection act and the impact abuse of their privileges could have on the organisation, with 65% agreeing that nothing has ever been said to them about the regulations.
This realisation will be a rude awakening to many directors if a breach should occur as the ICO has advised it will consider what reasonable steps the organisation has taken to prevent breaches when serving monetary penalties!

The severity of the 20 years prison sentence handed down to convicted TJX hacker Albert Gonzalez for running his own multi-million-dollar card hacking scam sends a very positive message that crime - and cybercrime in particularly - really does not pay in the long run, says Trusteer.
And, says Mickey Boodaei, the firm's CEO, the case rams home the message that bank card and account owners need to protect their cards and online assets if they are to avoid waking up to the horror of finding no money in their bank accounts.

Access Innovations is making its Data Harmony suite of software products and services available to clients through software as a service (SaaS) and Cloud technology.
Jay Ven Eman, CEO of Access, noted, “Cloud Computing was very much a buzzword of 2009, but the trend is expected to expand widely this year as more companies seek to make data and applications available from anywhere instead of relying on desktops and network servers. Amazon, Google and Microsoft are already offering or scheduled to begin offering Cloud platforms this year; cloud computing is also being pushed by the U.S. government.”

Albert Gonzalez the hacker who masterminded the breaches at TJX where 11.2 million payment card details alone were stolen has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for the part he played in organizing one of the largest theft of payment card numbers in history. Gonzalez will be sentenced for his involvement in breaches at Heartland Payment Systems today, Heartland Payment Systems was the largest data breach worldwide in 2009 with 130 million payment card details stolen.
Amichai Shulman, CTO of Imperva said, “The lesson to draw from today’s sentencing is simple: enterprises are fighting today’s cyber war with yesterday’s technology. Hackers continue to put up a persistent and very real threat to enterprise systems. The current data security spend is focused on enterprise networks, yet the Gonzalez attacks took distinct advantage of weaknesses in the database and applications. And this is an industry-wide problem.” said Amichai Shulman, CTO of Imperva.

On April 6, the ballgame for data security in the UK changes because, as from that date, the Information Commissioners' Office (ICO) has the power to fine organisations up to 500,000 pounds - up from 5,000 pounds previously - for serious data leaks or losses.
According to Amichai Shulman, chief technology officer with data security specialist Imperva, the critical element in this regard is clearly stated in the ICO's guidance on the new penalties (http://bit.ly/5byF1f) for breaking the provisions of the Data Protection Act (DPA).
The guidance states that penalties will be incurred where the "data controller has seriously contravened the data protection principles and the contravention was of a kind likely to cause substantial damage or substantial distress."

Card fraudsters are turning their attention back to the High Street as UK consumers show greater concern for the threats online, according to the UK's IT industry.
With CyberSource reporting that 71 per cent of UK consumers are concerned about the safety of online shopping, an industry round table highlighted the ongoing threats offline as a result of cybercrime.
Neil Lathwood, IT director at UKFast, said, "Card fraud is common both online and offline. You have at least the same level of risk buying in a shop or using a cash machine nowadays as you do online. There are even devices which can be hooked up to a card in a cash or a chip and PIN machine which do not require a PIN number."
With card fraud the main focus for criminal activity online, the UK Cards Association revealed that losses due to online banking fraud rose by 14 per cent to £59.7million last year. More secure retail websites and chip and PIN technology, as well as the continuing growth in the use of MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa, did see overall fraud losses on UK cards fall however for the first time since 2006.

Research conducted across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) by ISACA, a non-profit association of 86,000 global information technology professionals, has found that a quarter of enterprises that already use cloud computing believe that the risks outweigh the benefits (a fifth in the UK), yet still carry on regardless. This perhaps recognises the relative immaturity of cloud computing usage and the uncertainty of the balance between risk and reward. Of the more than 1,500 professionals sampled across more than 50 EMEA countries, 33% already use cloud computing (40% in the UK).
According to ISACA’s survey, the IT Risk/Reward Barometer, EMEA, with regard to future use of cloud computing:

• 9.4% of respondents (8.9% in the UK) plan to use cloud computing for mission-critical IT services;

• 8.8 % (9.6% UK) will only use the cloud for low-risk, non-mission-critical IT services;

• 35.6% (31.8% UK) do not plan to use the cloud for any IT services;

• 17.9% (23.6%) have not formalised their plans;

• 28.2% (26.1%) were not aware of any plans for cloud computing.

The survey found that nearly two thirds (63%) of organisations claimed they are willing to take IT-related business risks in anticipation of a return for the business (64.3% UK) and 12.1% would take large risks to maximise business return.

Responding to reports that Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter seniors are blaming weak passwords for the ongoing security problems of social networking sites, Imperva says that social networking sites need to take more responsibility for steering users in the direction of stronger passwords.
The comments by the panel of experts at the South by South Interactive event fail to take in account that people can - and frequently do - choose bad passwords, says Amichai Shulman, chief technology officer with the data security specialist.
"Coupled with the fact that users of these sites often don't use any IT security software and can be quite gullible at times, it's down to the operators of these sites to mandate the use of strong passwords," he said.

Despite 78% agreeing that it is wrong, 1 in 4 of UK’s children have tried their hand at hacking into others’ Facebook accounts mostly by surreptitiously using the victims passwords– that is the stark finding of a survey released today. And it’s not just the boys – 47% admitting guilt are girls. The study of 1,000 youngsters from London and 150 from Cumbria found that although 27% were doing so from the relatively safe confines of their bedrooms, these juvenile offenders are utilising computers in Internet Cafés (22%), the ICT suite at school (21%), and a friend’s machine (19%). The most common reason was for fun (46%) however 21% aimed to cause disruption and a resourceful 20% thought they could generate an income from the activity. A small minority (5%) were switching to the dark side as a career move!

It’s not all one-sided though, as the kids revealed they’d also fallen victim with over a third having had either their Facebook or email account hacked.

Ahead of InfoSecurity Europe opening its doors next month, one of its keynote speakers – Stewart Room, today offered organisations structured advice to keep them out of court, and avoid the £500K fine to be levied by the Information Commissioner from April, should they experience a security breach or data loss. This is an area where organisations inherently fail to plan as, according to results of an online poll conducted by Infosecurity Europe, a third f organisations admitted if they experienced a security breach tomorrow they do not have a system in place to adequately deal with the incident.
Stewart’s advice is that as far as data security and handling is concerned, and in deed applies to any area where there’s a regulatory framework, organisations need to focus on two elements: the system and the operations.
The system sets out the organisations position on security through documented rules, policies and procedures; and the operations detail how the organisation implements the system in its day to day activities. The premise is that if the system is legally compliant and covers all the benchmarks within the legislation then the law says that operational failures can be excused.

Preliminary results from BridgeHead's Data Management Healthcheck reveal that health IT managers are looking for resilient solutions for managing their electronic patient record (EPR) systems that can grow and evolve as their organisations' storage needs change over time.
Tony Cotterill, CEO of BridgeHead Software, pointed out, "Healthcare storage virtualization [HSV] helps hospitals realise the full potential of electronic patient records systems because HSV empowers hospitals to meet their growing storage needs without compromising on current hardware brand or media type. HSV separates applications from the storage device, allowing multiple applications to tap into the same resources and increasing overall utilization of the storage resource. [Furthermore,] vendor-agnostic solutions for HDM [healthcare data management] and HSV free hospitals to negotiate better service contracts on better terms with their application and storage vendors, hence making the most of their current storage infrastructure and systems investments."

Amplidata, innovator in HA storage solutions, will demonstrate the first version of their storage appliance during WebHostingDay in Cologne, Germany on March 17-18. At the event, Amplidata will show how version 2.0 of the unbreakable storage system, now available in four different products, provides unseen data availability at drastically decreased costs.
Amplidata is a turnkey implementation of the innovative Distributed Storage System (DSS) technology. DSS solves the scalability and reliability problems traditional storage systems face with the introduction of large capacity SATA drives and solid state disk. By storing data across a selection of disks that are widely distributed across storage nodes, racks and sites, data availability is improved dramatically. Amplidata reduces the risk for data loss from one event in years, as measured on current storage systems, to one in thousands of years. The DSS architecture ensures that a failure of a component such as a disk, storage node or even a full rack has no impact on data availability and a minimal impact on data redundancy. The entire system is permanently monitored and data integrity is constantly checked. As a result, bit errors on disks are proactively healed before they become an issue to the user.

Research just published claims to show that power, price and security are the three main drivers when it comes to companies reviewing their data centre requirements.
And, says a leader from ISACA, the not-for-profit information security association, the good news is that 28 per cent of the 100 major corporate respondents said security was highest on their priority lists, followed by 26 and 16 per cent when it comes to price and power.
"This is excellent news and indicates that the message that security is a key factor when planning major IT system deployments is getting through to managers outside the IT discipline," said Rolf von Roessing, CISA, CISM, CGEIT, international vice president of ISACA.

Kodak will showcase its latest innovations in document imaging technology at the 2010 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference & Exhibition at the MMR Information Systems Booth #5539 in Atlanta.

At Booth #5539, attendees will also have the opportunity to “capture” a moment with Kodak and MMR, and have their photo taken with Apollo 11 Astronaut, Buzz Aldrin. When processed, the photo will depict Buzz Aldrin and individual photo-takers as standing on the surface of the moon, in the original “Sea of Tranquility.”

Reports that staff data spanning more than five years at the Arkansas National Guard have gone missing on a back-up drive highlights the need for encrypted backups to be taken on live data - and also strengthen the argument that live data should also be encrypted, says Origin Storage.
"The archival drive reportedly contains the names, addresses and social security number details of at least 15,000 current and former members of staff as at March 2009, and spans back to the start of 2004," said Andy Cordial, managing director of the storage system integration specialist.
